Insert Oscars Post Here

No post for the Oscars fashion here...
I was studying.
I live an exciting life.
Anyway, of the few minutes of the red carpet I saw, my favorites were:

Naomi Watts
in Armani

and

Amanda Seyfried
in Alexander McQueen

I hope you got to enjoy more of your Oscar Sunday (and Monday... and Tuesday) than I did :)
What were your favorite looks??

Sunday Sundries: February 24

Here's a list of my favorite things for the week:

London Fashion Week:
Especially Christopher Kane right now.

The Rachel Zoe Project
Sometimes I feel like she's kind of over and I'm all Team Brad, but I watched a marathon of old episodes the other day while I was studying and sometimes I'm just obsessed. Especially when Rachel and Brad were together.

I just watched Perks of Being a Wallflower, it was really good.
I didn't even want to see it when it was in theaters, but I obviously take that back now.
I saw We Need to Talk about Kevin and it freaked me out for a while.

Nude Platforms:
I just ordered these from Forever 21, so they should be here in a few days. I can't wait!
I usually have a problem getting crazy statement shoes or you know like they work perfect for some occasions, but for casual events or something that is just everyday I can never find something to wear, so hopefully these will help.
I realize that this sounds a little incoherent, but I don't care.

What are some of your favorite things from this week?

I hope you have a great upcoming week too!

Current Cravings (besides carbs)

As you may know, I gave up carbs (well most carbs) for Lent. So to occupy my time I usually spend snacking, I've indulged in my shopping habit.

Here's what I'm currently browsing for:

Striped Leggings/Pants:

Do any of you watch Shah's of Sunset? Well on the finale GiGi wore a gorgeous stripped skirt, I'd take that too if I can find it.
But I couldn't find a good picture of it :(

Simple Strap Sandals:

Denim Vest - A must have for Spring!
(My sister is all over this trend and it looks great!)

Leather Baseball Cap

This Oversized Fringe Top

And since lucite is everywhere right now. I'm lusting over these.

The Clutch

The Heels

And the Table of course

What's on your lust list?

Sunday Sundries.

This is a new thing I'm going to try to keep up. It'll just be a list of my favorite little things of the week.

Cute coaster DIYs:

Cute pens and pencils:

Especially when they match my planner and notebook:
These have singlehandedly gotten me through the week.

And finally...
Harper's Bazaar.
This is almost the only thing I've read this week that hasn't been school related.

That's all for now folks, but I hope you liked it and I hope I have a more interesting week this week! Ha

Low Carb Lent

Do any of you do Lent?
The 40+ days between Fat Tuesday (starting on Ash Wednesday) and Easter?
I am not Catholic, but I have always loved the idea of Lent, giving up something to for 40 days and nights for Christ. Even if you aren't that religious, I think you would still like it if you love a good challenge. I've done it multiple times, but I think last year was the first year I did it all the way through without cheats. I did fried chicken, if you know me then you know what a big deal that is.
Now I sound like such a fatty.
But that will all change with Lent this year (It started 2 days ago)...
I'm giving up carbs.
Before someone turns into my Mom and tells me how bad that is for me I want you to know I'm not giving up all of them. Obviously I know you have to have some to live.
Anyway, I'm pretty excited. I think it is going to be really challenging, but I hope I can stick to it all the way! And I'll be skinny like woahhh
Just kidding, with my luck Ill be the one person in the world that gains weight with a low carb diet.
But maybe not! Wish me luck!

Are you planning on doing anything for Lent?

Work work work...

Right now I am working on a paper for my communications class. And applying for big girl jobs. Too much fun at once, right?

Anyway since I'm sitting in my almost finished, but not office I thought I'd share a bit more. Maybe by Friday it will be done!

DIY: Malachite Lamps

So, maybe you know that I might have an obsession with malachite. And the color of the year is Emerald, so there is no better time for this DIY project!

Just a fair warning before I go into more detail about this: I am not sure that it turned out 100% how I wanted it to, but I blame the fact that I used curvy lamps and not a flat box (I definitely plan on doing boxes soon).

Anywhooo, I believe I have already mentioned The Aestate's Malachite Box Tutorial (here). This will serve as the inspiration for these lamps and my future boxes.

You may have noticed these Dollar General turquoise lamps in the back ground of some pictures of my apartment, but maybe you didn't, I don't know. But here's a refresher:

First, I spray painted the base white.

Lucky you, you get a little sneak peak at an S that I'm also painting haha

Second, I painted the whole thing green.

Please ignore my dying manicure.

Then, you take a small piece of cardboard, and swirl it around creating a pattern while the paint is still wet. It helps to look at a malachite pattern while you are doing this, but my lamp is so small I did the pattern smaller.

Excuse the nails again.

Finally, voila! I am spray painting some lamp shades gold to go with these so I'll show yall those when they are done.

Do yall like these?
I think that the boxes may turn out a little better, but I like them and with the gold lampshades, they will look great! I might add a little gold leafing in some places.

Must See Grammy Looks!

Did yall watch the Grammys last night??
What'd you think of it? I didn't really care about the show except JT and Fun. of course.

But the fashion! I was pretty curious about how people would push the limits with the new rules in place, but I saw so many things that I was obsessed with!

1. Rihanna - This Alaia dress was absolutely gorgeous. Definitely my favorite!

2. Carrie Underwood - Some people think this Roberto Cavalli dress is too "pageant-y," but I love this dress. I love a good patterned dress, when it's done correctly.

3. Jennifer Lopez - In Anthony Vaccarello, she was definitely putting the new rules to the test, well for half of her body. I like this dress, but I wish the exposed leg part was a little longer, like short-length or something. Or maybe if it was a little flowier in that area? I just think it looks a little odd.

4. Maria Menounos - She's not a musician or singer, but she certainly made a red carpet statement in this Gomez-Gracia gown. I'm not a huge yellow lover, but this color looks good and the dress is nice. BUT that slit is not in the right place in my opinion, maybe its just this picture, but this is not for me.

5. Karlie Koss - This Michael Kors dress is definitely one of my favorite looks for the night. It was perfect for someone to make a splash on the carpet, but didn't really take away from those actually nominated for the awards.

6. Estelle - This Genelle Brooks x Love Collins patterned 2 piece gown is absolutely stunning. I am not one for patterns on that much fabric, but she totally pulls it off. I think if there was anything I would change I would make it a solid color, maybe in that peachy orange thats in that pattern? Oh well. I am also obsessed with the 2 pieces, I love that its glamorous, but also the bit of skin showing is bohemian-ish which I'm crushing on lately.

These are definitely not the only Must See looks of the night, but these are the ones I wanted to talk about. And we all know it's all about me :P
Anyway you can find all these pictures and more at New York Daily News.

What were your favorite looks of the night? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

New Office in Progress

Since I moved out of my college apartment a few weeks ago, I moved into my mother's new house about 15 miles from Athens. The dream situation for my senior year of college? Definitely not! But it is pretty lucky that she happened to buy this new house at the same time my roommate went crazy (still bitter... me? never.) especially since its relatively close to school and its an all new, clean palette for me to put my furniture in.

The house is kind of all out of whack, because most of my mom's furniture is still in South Georgia, and I have all my things so the new house is kind of filled with things, but still empty. Does that make sense? It has all my stuff in it, but its all college-y apartment-y things so my mom is not really into that being the decor for her real life grown up house.. Haha, but her stuff should be here next week.

Anyway right now I've decided to have my bed in a smaller room and all my other things into a kind of office for me. So keep in mind that I am still putting the room together so its not perfect but I thought I'd share a little sneak peak of one of the walls I have decorated...

I swear everything is centered and not as off balance as this picture makes it look.
Still a work in progress but more is coming soon!

Also, remember the pink carpet room I told y'all I was working on a while ago? Well, I promise I haven't forgotten to post the pictures or anything! But the project has been put on a little tiny hold, just for a few weeks. Which considering all this moving and stuff I've been doing it was like perfect timing. I have been collecting some accessories for that room so I might be posting a few pics for that soon.

PS I should still be working on that silly school stuff, but instead I'm decorating rooms and pretending I'm in New Orleans for Mardi Gras or New York for Fashion Week.
It's a sad life. :)

Yup pup

What better way to spend a rainy day after class watching Shahs of Sunset with my little bestie. All that homework, lists, and planning has just got to wait a few hours.

Work it, Run it, Watch it

I have my first test of the semester this Thursday, an annotated bibliography due next Tuesday, and I have to have my thesis advisor picked out and ready to sign an agreement by the following Thursday...
Have I done any preparation for these tasks?
None whatsoever.

But that's ok, right?
I'll admit it, I have been procrastinating non stop and this weekend would have been a wonderful time to get stuff done since I no longer have my apartment in the Classic City :( and downtown wasn't calling my name.
Actually that's a lie. My sister and I went downtown Friday, but just to dinner NOT to go out. : P

Anyway, since I got very little done this weekend (oh P.S. I'm including Mondays into the weekend now because I'm THAT procrastinatory), I have to get things done today!
But of course after I went to class, I had to do something before just diving into more school work.
So I actually did something productive (even though it still isn't school stuff)!
I worked out. I planned to crank up my iTunes and run out my feelings (Ha!), but I saw Friends with Benefits was on and I love that movie. Instead of being a fatty and sitting down and watching it, I did a "no gym required" workout from Pinterest, while I watched the movie.
(Weird? Maybe, but Mila Kunis is still Black Swan skinny in it and that is some major inspiration)
I kind of thought it would be easy and not that intense, but let me tell you: I felt the burn and I still feel it. But that could be the fact that I haven't worked out more than walking to class and the refrigerator in weeks!

I also noticed how old and dirty my running shoes are starting to look, which is weird because of their lack of use. (Ba dumbum tsss)

So I was browsing around on Zappos.com and found some that I thought were cute (because lets be honest, these are going to see campus during class time way more than the treadmill):

These Newton Running shoes are the prettiest sherberty sporty shoes I've ever laid my eyes on.

These Nike's are similar to the ones I have now, which I liked a lot at first.
And at $65 they're about half the price of the Newton's above.

I think these are adorable, you can never go wrong with pink and black or red and black (they come in either). They also got a pretty high customer rating!

I think these Brooks' might be the winner, I really liked some old Brooks shoes I had and they also go a 5/5 review.

I might go waste time at brick and mortar store and investigate a little more. Haha.

What's your favorite running shoe? Or what's your favorite way to work out? I'd love suggestions!

P.S. Here's some inspiration if you need it!

How to clean a microfiber couch!

Ready to learn?
You better be!

Haha. Maybe this is just common knowledge, but as you may have seen in an earlier post, I have recently moved out of an apartment with a less than stellar roommate. What does that have to do with cleaning a couch?
Well since said ex roommate bought a puppy and had a 'mudboggin' boyfriend who had no respect for others things I left the apartment with a totally nasty couch.

After scouring Pinterest for cleaning tips I found Chris and Robin's Nest and their How to clean Microfiber tutorial. So I gave it a try!

It didn't turn out perfectly but I think it's because my couch was super super dirty!
Here's a quick overview, but you can also check out the "official" one here: http://chrisandrobinsnest.blogspot.com/2010/09/how-to-clean-microfiber-furniture.html?m=1

Supplies:
Rubbing alcohol (use a spray nozzle on the bottle)
White sponge or cloth
(The cloth worked best for me)
Scrub brush

Step 1: Vacuum any dirt or crumbs and such off of the surface.

Step 2: Spray the dirty surface with the alcohol, make sure to saturate it. (Don't worry the alcohol doesn't leave watermarks)

Step 3: Scrub your poor little heart out! Warning: you may be totally grossed out by the dirt and grime that comes off on your white cloth or sponge.

Step 4: Let it completely dry. You may be thinking "Ew no it'll get dark and dry and stiff." It will but that's where step 5 comes in.

Step 5: Brush the areas with the scrub brush. The areas that are stiff or darker should be brushed/ scrubbed out! Buff it til it's beautiful!

Now, you should be done. I'm including pictures of mine, but don't be discouraged plenty of other people have had better out comes! I think mine really helped in some places and then I think it brought up stains that are below the surface like in the cushioning so that's why I think it didn't work as perfectly as I thought, but I think I'm going to try it again next week! I'll fill you in on the details. And PS I didn't think about taking great before and after pictures so I'm sorry about that! Haha

Good luck!
